The WBBL Match 35 brings the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Thunder to Lilac Hill for the first match in the double header on the Cricket carnival weekend. The coin was tossed and Scorcher captain Meg Lanning called it and sent the Sydney Thunder into bat infront of the 3200 supporters .Thunder openers Rachael Haynes and Rachael Priest came out to take centre ,Nicole Bolton was thrown the new ball,from the first over the Thunder made their intentions known as the openers started to hit the Scorchers all over the ground ,the Thunder were 77 without loss off 7.0 overs when Nicole bowled Rachael Priest for 43 runs ,the Thunder are now 1/77 .Naomi Stalenberg was the next batter to take centre but within the over was heading back to the dugout making 1 run after being caught off the bowling of Taneale Peschel ,Sydney were now 2/80 .Harmanpreet Kaur came out to take centre and together with Rachael Haynes took the score to 114 before Haynes was bowled by Nicole Bolton for 50 runs ,The Thunder are now 3/114 .Thunder captain Alex Blackwell was the next batter to take centre ,the pair only managed to add 3 runs before Blackwell was caught off the bowling of Piepa Cleary for 2 ,after a great start the Thunder were know 4/117 off 13.5 overs.Stafanie Taylor came out to take centre and together with Harmanpreet Kaur continued to pile on the runs ,in the 4 overs they batted they put on 49 runs.In the first ball of the 18th over Harmanpreet Kaur was caught of the bowling of Katie Cross for 45 runs,Thunder were now 5/166 .Nicola Carey came out to join Taylor and they put another 13 runs before the 20 overs came up.Rachael Haynes ,Rachael Priest and Harmannpreet Kaur all contributed the majority of run with scores of 50,43 and 45 .Again the Scorchers fielding was average with 5 catches being put down .
The Scorchers openers came out looking to chase down 180 runs to win which would be a record run chase for the WBBL,The new ball was taken by Samantha Bates ,now the Perth Scorchers started to chase down the total with 9 overs bowled the Scorchers were 0/93 until a misunderstanding between the openers saw Meg Lanning ran out for 76 runs ,the Scorchers were now 1/93 ,coming out to join Elyse Vinali was Amy Jones who together put on a 46 run partnership before Jones was caught off the bowling of Lisa Griffith for 13 runs.Scorchers were now 2/139 ,Heather Graham was the incoming Batsmen and only made 1 run before she too was heading back to the pavillion after being caught off the bowling of Nicola Carey.The Scorchers were now 3/140 off 14.2 overs ,needing 40 runs to take the points Nicole Bolton came out ,took center ,then pair took the score to 169 after 18 overs ,then Bolton was bowled by Nicola Carey for 11 runs.Coming out to take centre was Lauren Esbary and together with opener Elyse Vinali the pair got the required runs with 3 balls to spare .Congratulations to the Scorchers who made history for chasing down the runs in record time .Meg Lanning ,Elyse Vinali contributed the majority of runs with scores of 76 and 66 not out.
