The season opener of the Marsh one dayers came to the WACA ground in Perth with Western Australia playing Victoria in a day/nighter ,the two captains came out to toss the coin with WA captain Ashton Turner calling it ,he decided to put his homeside into bat with Peter Handscomb’s VIC team bowling.Coming out to open for WA was keeper Josh Phillipe with D’Arcy Short ,opening the bowling for VIC was Glenn Maxwell ,the two WA batters showed there intentions straight from the first ball ,over the next 10 overs they put on 77 runs before D’Arcy Short played a ball onto his own stumps .WA are now 1/77 ,the incoming batter is WA International Shaun Marsh ,the pair added 18 runs before Josh Phillipe was bowled by Scott Boland for 61 runs off 43 balls off which included 10 boundries .WA are now 2/95 ,the incoming batter is Cameron Bancroft ,this pair put on 9 run before Shaun Marsh was caught short of his crease and was run out by Scott Boland for 8 runs off his 19 balls WA are now 3/104 .WA skipper Ashton Turner was the next batter to come out to take centre and together with Bancroft over the next 12 overs added 96 runs which took the home side to 4/200 off 31.6 overs ,before Ashton Turner was caught off the bowling of Jon Holland for 52 runs of 49 balls .Incoming batsmen Marcus Stoinis made his his way to the centre then together with Cameron Bancroft over the next 9 overs put on 54 runs before Cameron Bancroft was caught of the bowling of Jackson Coleman for 78 runs off 75 balls,WA are now 5/254 with just over 40 overs bowled.Ashton Agar is the incoming batsmen who with Marcus Stoinis got into the Victorian bowlers and over the next 8 overs put on a 105 run partnership until Ashton Agar was caught off the bowling of Jon Holland for 27 runs of 20 balls ,WA were now 6/359 with 2 overs remaining ,Nathan Coulter-Nile was the next batter to come out and take centre ,in the next over the pair added 13 runs before Coulter-Nile was caught of the bowling of Will Sutherland ,WA now 7/372 with an over remaining ,Marcus Stoinis is on 95 ,Jhye Richardson came out and faced up but after a misunderstanding was run out for 1 run by Harper, next batter to come out is Andrew Tye ,Will Sutherland came into bowl and on the last ball of the innings Marcus Stoinis requiring 5 runs to get his Ton hit Sutherlands half volley over the fence for 6 ,taking his total to be 101runs not out of 58 balls ,Tye on 0 not out and WA making 386 runs of the 50 overs.The wickets were spread evenly between the Vic bowlers with Jon Holland taking 2/72.
The Victorian batters came out looking to get 8 runs an over to get the required 387 to take the win,coming out to open for Victoria were Matt Short and Aaron Finch ,the pair started to attack the WA bowlers adding 34 runs in just over 3 overs before power hitter Aaron Finch was out caught of the bowling of Jhye Richardson for 33 runs in 16 balls,Victoria are now 1/34 ,incoming batter is Will Pucoski who with Matt Short added another 34 runs of 5 overs before Matt Short was caught off the bowling of Matthew Kelly ,Victoria are now 2/68 .The next batter to join Pucoski is skipper Peter Handscomb ,the scored moved on to 72 before Handscomb was caught off the bowling of Andrew Tye for a duck ,Victoria are now 3/72 ,Nic Maddinson was the new batter to come out to join Will Pucoski ,the pair added 28 runs before Pucoski was caught off the bowling of Marcus Stoinis ,the Vic’s were now 4/100 .Victoria’s power hitter Glenn Maxwell came out and made his intentions known and in the next 10 overs took the score to 194 off 28 overs before Glenn Maxwell was caught off the bowling Ashton Agar for a well made 51 runs off 31 balls, Victoria are now 5/194 .Sam Harper was the next batter to take centre,the pair only added another 13 runs before Harper was caught off the bowling of Ashton Agar for 9 runs off the 11 balls faced ,the Vics were now 6/207 off 31.6 overs.Will Sutherland was the next batter to make his way to the centre and only lasted 9 runs before he was caught off the bowling of Nathan Coulter-Nile for 1 run,the Vic’s are reeling at 7/216.Nic Maddinson who was playing well was starting to run out of partners ,the new batter coming out is Jon Holland ,this partnership lasted only 8 runs before Nic Maddinson was caught off the bowling of Nathan Coulter-Nile for 87 runs after facing 80 balls,the Vics were now 8/243.New batter Scott Boland came out ,this partnership only lasted an over with Jon Holland departing for 5 runs off 8 balls ,Victoria are now 9/247.Jackson Coleman came out to join Scott Boland ,then in the 39th over Scott Boland was caught of the bowling of Andrew Tye ,Victoria are all out for 261 runs .Western Australian bowlers played well with the wickets being spread thru’ the ranks ,Ashton Agar took 3/54 off his 9 overs.
Man of the match went to Marcus Stoinis for his 101 not out
