Around 30,000 supporters came to Optus Stadium to watch the Perth Scorchers take on the Hobart Hurricanes in match 24 of the KFC BBL ,Scorcher captain Mitch Marsh and Hurricanes skipper Ben McDermott made their way to the centre for the Bat flip ,Hurricanes skipper Ben McDermott called it and decided to bat putting the Scorchers out to field .Coming out to open for the Hurricanes is D’Arcy Short and Caleb Jewell ,the new ball was thrown to Scorcher opener Jhye Richardson ,over the next 10 overs the Hurricane openers scored freely off the bowling of Matthew Kelly,Fawad Ahmed ,Chris Jordan and Jhye Richardson ,after the 10 overs the Hobart Hurricanes are 0/68 and cruising .Then in the eleventh over Liam Livingstone came on for a bowler change ,then with Caleb Jewell on strike the batter went to put the ball over the fence ,mistimed it and was caught for 25 runs ,the Hurricanes have lost their first wicket 1/69 .The new batter to come out is David Miller then with D’Arcy Short over the next 4 overs took the total to 111 before David Miller went Lbw to Fawad Ahmed for 15 runs ,the Hurricanes are now 2/111.Ben McDermott is the new batter to join the inform D’Arcy Short who was seeing the ball really well ,over the next 4 1/2 overs this pair put on 69 runs with D’Arcy Short getting his century on the last ball of the innings ,his century included 7 sixes ,3 fours ,his 103 not out came off 70 balls ,Ben McDermott remained 20 not out off his 11 balls ,the Scorchers missed catching opportunities as well as the bowlers having 17 extra’s.
Scorcher openers Liam Livingstone and Josh Inglis came out to face Hurricane opening bowler Tom Rogers,in the second over Liam Livingstone was facing up to Riley Meredith when tried a reverse sweep unfortunately he misjudged it and was cleaned bowled bowled by a good lenght ball ,the Scorchers are now 1/17,new batter to the crease was Cameron Bancroft ,Scott Boland came on and had Cameron Bancroft caught out for a duck ,the Scorchers are now 2/18 ,Scorcher skipper Mitch Marsh is the new batter to take centre ,he faces up to the first ball and drives the ball back towards the bowler who just managed to get a hand on it deflected it onto the stumps and Josh Inglis was run out for 3 runs ,the Scorchers are now 3/18 in the third over ,the Scorchers are in deep trouble ,the new batter to come out is Cameron Green who with Mitch Marsh formed a partnership over the 10 overs putting on 65 much needed runs ,then Cameron Green went Lbw to a ball from Nathan Ellis making 33 runs ,the Scorchers are now 4/93 .Chris Jordan is the new batter to come out but after the total moved to 95 he was caught on the boundary for 1 run off the bowling off Qias Ahmad ,the Scorcher are now 5/95 off 13 overs .Tim David came out to join Mitch Marsh ,but unfortunately this partnership only lasted 27 runs before Tim Davis was caught off the bowling of Scott Boland ,the Scorchers are now 6/122 with just under 5 overs remaining and 58 runs needed .Incoming batter is Ashton Agar ,together with Mrash they took the total to 129 before Scorcher skipper Mitch Marsh was caught off the bowling off Tom Rogers for 48 runs ,the Scorchers are now 7/129 ,next batter to come out is Jhye Richardson ,6 balls later Ashton Agar was making his way back to the pavillion for 8 runs after being caught off the bowling of Nathan Ellis ,the Scorchers are now 8/136 needing 44 runs off the 16 balls to win ,new batter to the crease is Matthew Kelly ,Jhye Richardson was batting well hitting 3 sixes off the last 2 overs ,unfortunately the Scorchers ran out of time and fell 8 runs short ,Jhye Richardson remained 33 not out while Matthew Kelly was 3 not out .The Hobart Hurrircanes won by 8 runs ,player of the match went to D’Arcy Short for his well made 103 not out ,the match could’ve went either way but Shorts not out innings was the match killer.The Hobart Hurricane bowlers all bowled well and all sharing the Scorcher wickets.
