           These two teams ,Western Australia and Victoria have earnt the right to be here at the WACA  to play off for the  2023 Sheffield Shield .The 2 skippers  WA’s Sam Whiteman and Bushrangers skipper Peter Handscomb  made their way to the centre for the toss ,it was Sam Whiteman that called it , sending Victoria into bat .The new ball was  thrown to Joel Paris while Matthew Kelly opened from the other end .Coming out to open for the VICs is Ashley Chandrasighe and Marcus Harris ,it wasn’t until the 10th over that the first wicket fell ,it was Marcus Harris who was out caught in front Lbw of the bowling of Lance Morris ,the Vic’s are 1/33 ,the next batter to come out is Campbell Kellaway ,this partnership put on 22 runs before Kellaway was out caught of the bowling of Matthew Kelly ,the Vic’s are now 2/55 in the 18th over .The new batter is Ashley Chandrasighe   ,this partnership put on 13 runs before Peter Handscomb was out caught of the bowling of Matthew Kelly ,the VICs are now 3/68 .the next batter to the crease is Matt Short ,over the next 16 overs this partnership added 44 runs before Short was out caught off the bowling of Joel Paris ,VICs are now 4/112 in the 46th over ,Will Sutherland is the incoming batter ,this partnership lasted 2 balls before Sutherland was heading back to the pavilion ,VICs are now 5/113 in the 47th over ,Sam Harper is the new batter to come out and join Chandrasighe  this partnership lasted added 16 runs before Sam Harper was out caught behind off the bowling off Lance Morris ,the VICs are 6/129 .Mitchell Perry is the incoming batter who with Chandrasighe added  52 runs to the total  before Perry was out caught of the bowling off Joel Paris ,the VICs are now 7/181.Fergus O’Neil is the new batter who with Chandrasighe added 13 runs before he was caught off the bowling off Aaron Hardie ,the VICs are now 8/194 .Day 2 coming out to join Chandrasighe is Todd Murphy ,this partnership lasted for 3 overs before Murphy was caught out of the bowling of Lance Morris ,the VICs are now 9/194. The last batter to make his way out to the crease is Scott Boland who made 1 run before he was out caught of the bowling off Matthew Kelly, the VICs are all out for 195 runs, Ashley Chandrasighe batted thru’ the first day and six overs into the 2nd day to make his 46 runs not out off 280 balls.

           Coming out to open for WA is Cameron Bancroft and Sam Whiteman while VIC brought on opening bowlers Scott Boland and Fergus O’Neil, the WA openers added 42 runs before Sam White lost his wicket after being caught off the bowling of Will Sutherland, WA are now 1/42 in the 18th over. Coming out to the crease is Teague Wyllie who with Cameron Bancroft put on 10 runs before Bancroft was out caught off the bowling of Scott Boland, WA are now 2/52 in the 25th over. The new batter to walk out to the crease is Hilton Cartwright unfortunately this partnership only lasted 6 balls before Teague Wyllie was out  caught of the bowling of Will Sutherland ,WA are now 3/52 ,Aaron Hardie is the next batter to the crease  ,this partnership lasted for 4 overs before Hilton Cartwright was out caught of the bowling of Will Sutherland ,WA are now 4/53 and not looking in a great spot having lost 3 wickets in the last run .The next batter is Ashton Turner who partnered Aaron Hardie to take the total to 139 before Aaron Hardie lost his wicket after being caught of the bowling of Will Sutherland ,WA are now 5/139 in the 52nd over .Josh Phillipe is the new batter to the crease who with Ashton Turner started to add to the total before play was stopped because of bad light .Play resumed on Day 3 with WA getting to 6/178 before Josh Phillipe lost his wicket caught off the bowling of Scott Boland .Joel Paris is the next batter to the crease who with Ashton Turner put on a 105 run partnership to pass the VIC  1st innings total of 195 runs ,unfortunately Joel Paris was out caught of the bowling of Matt Short ,the WA team are now  7/283 ,Matthew Kelly is the next batter to join Ashton Turner ,11 balls later century maker Ashton Turner was making his way back to the pavilion after being caught off a ball from Will Sutherland .WA are now 8/290 .Corey Rocchiccioli is the next batter to the crease ,these batters added 22 runs to the total before Corey Rocchiccioli was out clean bowled  by Matt Short ,WA are now 9/312 .The next batter to take centre is Lance Morris ,these two batters added just 3 runs before Lance Morris lost his wicket after being cleaned bowled by Fergus O’Neil  ,WA are all out for 215 runs off 119 overs.

       The Vic openers Marcus Harris and Ashley Chandrasighe came out to open their 2nd innings with WA opening bowlers   Matthew Kelly and Joel Paris lining up at either end. With  just 4 overs into the innings Marcus Harris was out caught of the bowling of Joel Paris ,the VICs are 1/9 ,coming out to the crease is Campbell Kellaway ,this partnership only lasted a bit over 2 overs before Ashley Chandrasighe was out after being clean bowled by Joel Paris ,VICs are now 2/10 .Peter Handscomb is the next batter to the crease together with Kellaway this partnership added 54 runs before  Campbell Kellaway was out caught of the bowling of Matthew Kelly ,the VICs are now 3/64 23rd over .The next batter to the crease is Matt Short ,this partnership added 6 runs ,the VICs are now 4/70 .The next batter to the crease is Sam Harper ,this partnership added 2 runs before Sam Harper went Lbw to Joel Paris ,the VICs are now 5/72 ,Mitchell Perry is the incoming batter ,9 balls later it was Peter Handscomb who was heading back to the pavilion after being caught off the bowling of Lance Morris ,the VICs are now 6/74.Will Sutherland made his way out the crease to join Mitchell Perry ,these 2 batters added a much needed 71 runs ,unfortunately Mitchell Perry was out caught of the bowling of Matthew Kelly ,the VICs are now 7/145 .New batter Fergus O’Neil came out to the centre but this was short lived as he was out clean bowled for a duck ,the VICs are now 8/145 .Todd Murphy is the new batter who came out to join Will Sutherland  ,this partnership added  60 runs to the total before was out caught off the bowling of Aaron Hardie ,the VICs are now 9/205,Scott Boland is the next and last batter to take centre ,9 balls later it was Will Sutherland that was out caught of the bowling of Aaron Hardie ,Victoria are all out for 210 runs off 60.2 overs .

         The WA openers Cameron Bancroft and Sam Whiteman make their way out to face up to opening bowlers Scott Boland and Mitchell Perry ,the 2 WA openers added  5 runs before Sam Whiteman was out Lbw to Scott Boland ,WA are 1/5,Teague Wyllie is the incoming batter to join Cameron Bancroft  ,together these 2 batters put on a partnership of 88 runs to take Western Australia  to win the 2022/23 Sheffield Shield .Cameron Bancroft remained 39 not out with Teague Wyllie remaining on 43 not out .Its a great win to Western Australia ,Ashton Turners 142 runs in the first innings set up WA for the win  ,Victorian bowler Will Sutherland was the pick of the VIC bowlers with WA bowlers Matthew Kelly and Joel Paris ,Lance Morris contributing to the win .

Ashton Turner was named player of the match.
