The day started off well with the Formula Fords first up on the grid and it was Declan O'brien who got off to a good start ,with Peter Major hot in pursuit who eventually wore down O'Brien to take the chequered flag with Andrew Goldie taking out 3rd place .In Race 2 Anthony Martin got away well and drove hard to keep ahead of Peter Major and Declan O'Brien who weren't wasting any time ,eventually Martin went on to win ,with Major taking 2nd and O'Brien coming in 3rd ,the time between 1-3rd was less than ½ a second.
Next up were the Gentlemen racing the HQ's with 14 cars competing in the 22 lap event ,there was some discussion around the fence as to how many would make the distance ,well 13 cars completed the distance with only 1 DNF ,it's hard to kill an old Holden. In race 1 of the Wanneroo 100 Ralph Hobbs got away well and after completing his compulsory stop/driver change went on to beat the 2 driver entry of Sweetman/Kneafsey with the entry of Grant Ord claiming the last spot on the podium .In R2 the Howletts changed their strategy which turned in their favor and after their driver change/stop they went to claim the chquered flag with the entry of Grant Ord holding off Ryan Davis who took 3rd ,there was just over 1 second gap between the 3 cars after 22 laps which was pretty good with only 3 DNF's.
Coming out next were the Saloon ,Street + IPC cars with 29 cars making up the grid for the Wanneroo 200 ,there were all sorts in this class with Evo's ,Commodores ,Falcons ,and even the Excels fronting up for the 83 lap race .The entry of Panizza/Kendrick were the favorites out of this field and didn't let anyone down ,they lead of the start line and really didn't look back ,the entry of the EVO of Wilkinson/Major went well without any drama's taking 2nd spot on the podium with the entry of Lillis/Tabinor claiming 3rd place ,after the 83 laps the 4 Excel Mums shopping baskets were still going strong in the end.
In the main Event the Wanneroo 300 , 13 cars lined up on the grid to do battle for the 125 laps around Barbagallo Raceway ,with no clear favorites the race belonged to who lasted the 125 laps .The race lead changed many times ,but as the race went on ,more cars were DNF'd thru' a variety of mechanical failures and Brain failures ,at the end after their compulsory 2 - 8 min stops the Combo of Darren Smith /Luke Youlden driving their Porsche GTS crossed the finish line to take the chequered flag and top spot on the podium, coming in next was the pair of Grant Hill /Jordan Ormsby driving their BA Falcón, rounding off the podium was Michael Miller / Mark Jewel in their vintage Commodore SS which just kept on keeping on.
In the end only 5 cars were left running around the track with 8 cars parked up in the pits.
A great day was had by all !!!
