Match 31 brought the WBBL Scorchers and the Sydney Thunder to the Furnace for the first game of the day in the double header .The captains went out tossed the coin and the Scorchers captain Elyse Villani won the toss and didn’t hesitate to put the visitors into bat .The new ball was given to Katherine Brunt who opened the bowling while Rachel Haynes and Rachel Priest opened the batting for the Thunder. Katherine Brunt came in bowled a perfect Yorker which cleaned bowled Rachael Priest for Duck ,Thunder 1/1 .the new batsman in was the Thunder captain Alex Blackwell ,together the pair took the score to 15 before Rachel Haynes lost her wicket for 8 runs ,caught Lauren Ebsary bowled Nicole Bolton ,Thunder 2/15.Stefanie Taylor came out took centre and then over the next 16 over’s with her captain Alex Blackwell added 113 runs before Piepa Cleary bowled a great ball which went straight thru’ batsmen Stefanie Taylor ,Thunder 3/128.The new batsmen to take centre was Harmanpreet Kaur but after a misunderstanding was run out for 1 ,Thunder 4/129 ,with 2 balls remaining in the innings new batsmen Naomi Stalenberg made her way out to the centre Alex Blackwell on strike wacked the next ball to the boundary for 4 runs ,Alex Blackwell ended up not out with a solid 81 ,while Naomi Stalenberg was 1 not out, the Thunder ended their 20 over’s being 4/134.Katherine Brunt and Nicole Bolton were the best of the Scorcher bowlers ,each taking a wicket.
The Scorchers opening pair Elyse Villani and Nicole Bolton came out , while the Thunder’s Rene Farrell opened the bowling ,Villani and Bolton were batting well,but when on 17 the pair went for a run that wasn’t and Scorcher captain Elyse Villani was caught short and was run out for 9 ,Scorchers 1/17.The new batsmen to take centre was Natalie Sciver who with Nicole Bolton took charge of the match and added 69 runs in 5.2 over’s , Thunder bowler Miasy Gibson came in and bowled to Nicole Bolton who played the ball to mid wk but was caught by Harmanpreet Kaur for 28 runs, Scorchers 2/86.The new batsmen to take centre was Katherine Brunt then together with Natalie Sciver the pair took their partnership to 50 runs which won the Scorchers the match in 19 over’s ,Natalie Sciver ended up 61 not out ,Katherine Brunt 17 not out ,the best of the Thunder bowlers were Rene Farrell and Samantha Bates.
Player of the match went to Thunder captain Rene Blackwell.
